State park fees to increase; widespread closures still expected

News from the broken, bankrupt Californian government: Camping fees to rise, State Parks likely to close.

Luckily for us, we made all our camping reservations a long time ago, so we won't be impacted by the rising fees. And we will be returning from our trip before Labor Day, so we shouldn't have any problem making it into our campgrounds. But what a sorry state this State is in.

I'm not sure I even understand how a huge park can really be closed. I guess they can stop letting the public in, but surely they have to keep on the majority of the rangers to maintain the woodlands, for security and maintenance, to keep an eye out for fires, to watch over the wildlife and so on. When you visit one of these parks, you don't see the rangers very much. They check you in, check you out, and tell you off when you make too much noise after 10:00pm. I don't really understand how the State will save a lot of money by padlocking the gates against the nature bunny taxpayers. They'll certainly lose goodwill.
